Who should take this training?

Oak Leaf is for scouts who are ready to assume a leadership position in their troop. This overnight training experience places the participant in a working patrol where they will participate in the patrol method, learn the workings of the patrol and troop, and be introduced to some introductory leadership skills. The objective of Oak Leaf is to give the Scout the confidence and skills needed to be a successful leader.

Participant Requirements

Participants must have at least earned their First Class rank and have completed Youth Leadership Training before participation in this program. Scoutmaster approval is required and should only be granted to scouts who are ready to participate and work in group activities.

Notes for Participants and Staff

A current Class 1, 2, or 3 medical form is required to participate in the course. You must submit this no later than check-in.

You will stay at one of the campsites near the OA Field. Be prepared to pack your gear in and out. You will not set-up camp immediately upon arrival, so make sure your gear is adequately weatherproofed.

Come to check-in wearing your full official BSA Field Uniform (khaki shirt with insignia, official olive shorts/pants, Scout belt, and Scout socks). You will wear your uniform for most of the course, so you may want to bring extra Scout socks, etc.

Bring your Scout handbook, paper, and a pen or pencil.

Everyone is expected to live by the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan, and Outdoor Code during Oak Leaf.

You must pre-register to attend this course. On-site registration is not permitted. A completed application form, with all of the necessary signatures, is required.
